Referrals & Insurance
Referrals
Most HMOs require a referral to see any doctor other than your primary care physician. If you do not obtain a referral for a visit with a specialist, you may not be seen. Please be aware that referrals often require authorization from your insurance company. For this reason, we ask that you allow our referral coordinator at least three business days to process all referral requests.
Please note:
- We do not "back date" referrals.
- It takes three days for a referral to be complete unless it needs to be authorized by the insurance company; then it may take longer.
- We do not fax referrals. It is the patient's responsibility to send the referral to the specialist's office.
- Referrals must be picked up between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., unless other arrangements have been made.
- For procedures and surgeries, the specialist needs to request the referral and we will in turn send the referral directly to them.
Insurance
We participate with many insurance companies. Please confirm with us that we accept your insurance coverage prior to your visit.
At the time of your visit, you will be expected to pay any deductible and co-payment amounts. We will try to facilitate the best health care possible within your insurance company system, but it is very important that you become familiar with your insurance coverage. Please contact your insurance provider with any specific questions or concerns regarding your coverage.
